  • Toe walking

My 5 year old is still toe walking (appeared around age 3).  He has orthotics in his shoes and if barefoot he responds well to be told or signaled to get off his toes but will start up again a very short time later.  Would appreciate any advice/suggestions on how to help him stop toe walking.

  • Pushed off the diving board.....again.

This is my first blog experience...bear with me...

I am feeling pushed off the diving board again.  I found out last night in the middle of a large social situation that my son's TSS has been freely telling other parent's in my son's class that he is autistic.  While that is the diagnosis we currently hold, I really don't appreciate her dissemination of what I consider (and have stressed to all the players multiple times) of our personal information.  Worse yet was finding out from another mother (whom I have only know 5 days) in the manner in which I did.

I see the TSS's side....she was asked a direct question and she answered it honestly.  I see the other mom's side....she wanted to know who the TSS was, why she's always in class, etc. and that lead to a natural curiosity to my son's condition.  I love our TSS and I really like the other mom, she's cool and supportive and would have been a potential choice at some point to confide my struggles in.  There in lies the rub - Why can't *I* choose who is graced with the knowledge of my child?  Especially when my kid is going to spend the next 13 years in school with these other children whose parents know of our situation now.  He is not a case file that get closed at the end of the day.  HE is the one who will suffer any potential consequences of too much information strewn about.

We are still in the early stages of our diagnosis, my grief hasn't subsided yet and I am not being allowed to stand at the edge of the diving board and get comfortable.
